Barking Waters is the English translation of the Seminole word "Wewoka"  (We - Woe - Kuh).  Wewoka, OK is the childhood home of the owner of this website, Donna Stidham.

When the Seminoles were relocated to Oklahoma, then known as Indian Territory, they camped beside a creek with a small waterfall.  True to how Native Americans name people and places, they called this place Wewoka or Barking Waters.

If you're ever in Wewoka, OK, please stop by and visit my friends at the Seminole Nation Museum
They can direct you to the actual location of this creek if you want to see it in person.

Donna is Seminole/Creek/Cherokee.
